Gboard Debuts New Floating Option to Type Better With One Hand

Small screen phones are something of the past. If a phone is released, chances are that there is also a larger companion phone too that tags along with it. But with big screens come additional problems. Using your phone in a single hand might be hard, but typing with a single hand is harder. Fingers need to be stretched to get to the letters that are on the other side of the screen, and when all hope is lost, the second hand comes aboard to help.

Well, Google understands that and has come out with a tool to help you type easily than stretching your thumb to a max to get to the other end of the screen. Well, now with Gboard, you can now make the mobile keyboard float and you can move it anywhere you want. So, how is it done? Well, you can just head on and tap the Gboard’s G icon, and from there you can head on to the three dots menu, from where you will find the option.

Single-handed Option

This feature was first reported upon back in September, but back then this seemed like a feature that was being tested for only a few users. But now this is being rolled out for a lot of people. You can go ahead and check if you have any updates for the Gboard app, and if you haven’t received such an update, it means that you already have this, and you can already access this.

This feature is not Google’s idea, but instead, this is Google’s version of the feature that was debuted on SwiftKey. They both share the same characteristics too. There is a small handle at the bottom that allows for the keyboard to be dragged around. There is also a feature to resize the keyboard if wished. This keyboard does not block visibility too as it turns transparent if left untouched for a bit. But of course, Google’s version of this feature is much more polished and is also much more pleasant to the eye.

Ease of Use

And this is a wonderful feature as sometimes typing with one hand on large screens might be a pain, and this eases it. So there you have it! With this new feature, you can not only resize your keyboard, but can also drag it across the screen, and the keyboard also goes transparent when left untouched. But of course, if you can’t find this option, you can just wait for your turn as this rollout makes its way to your Android device.
