Google To Discontinue Inbox Testing App By March 2019

Gmail is undoubtedly one of the most used email services in the world. With the array of services and features that Google offers with just one email id, many opt for this service for their online needs. Google has always maintained its core Gmail app the same for many years, but it also has an alternate app that takes on the part of having all the exciting, cool and new features.

Inbox has been Google’s more daring and experimental app. Gmail has always stayed more or less the same for many years, but Inbox is the app that has more of the exciting features. However, the goal has always been to test first in Inbox and then implement it into Gmail. And Google has been steadily doing that for a while.

Discontinuation of Inbox

And so turns out that Google is satisfied with the way Gmail is functioning now, and the company has announced that Inbox would be discontinued by the end of March 2019. This is not the first time that the company is cutting off or discontinuing user favorite or exciting apps. Inbox by Gmail users was not happy on hearing this news, and part of the reason is that though Gmail would have been adopting a few features from Inbox, it did not adopt the feature that made users use Inbox.

Inbox had something that one would call as a Focused Inbox that would allow only emails sent from people, and high alert emails to pop up. The rest could be accessed by clicking on a list, but this kept the homepage clean, and clutter free. Gmail might have adopted other features from Inbox, but it is yet to adopt this feature.

From Powerpacked to Nothing

Gmail still has a hard time in differentiating spam from focused email, and sometimes, emails from companies still pop up in the main inbox. Users hope that the cutting off of Inbox imminent, this feature would gradually be adopted by Gmail too.

But still, hard-core Inbox users would find it hard to go back to the old Gmail. Inbox was a very powerful and feature packed application, and Gmail is nothing but it’s younger brother. Users who need such an experience would now have to go hunting for new email clients, and right now, Microsoft’s Outlook seems the way to go once Inbox is buried for good. There are other apps like Yahoo Messenger and also a few other Indie apps that look promising. Truly, Gmail would have to step up its game if it has to meet expectations.
