TikTok to face a $5.7 million fine from the FTC

The Federal Trade Commission has fined TikTok creators a whopping $5.7 million in fine for violating COPPA act and dishonoring the regulations. TikTok, a lip syncing video application that became very famous in a short period of time allowed child videos (under the age of 13) which very highly created an impact on the children under that age.

TikTok dishonored Child Online Privacy Protection Act by sharing the videos of children under the age of 13, also letting their profiles go public without their parent’s permission and even enabling a feature that will help you share the location (pulled out by Oct 2016).

Over these years, the FTC was keen on TikTok making the size of calculated fine bigger and bigger. Though it won’t be a big deal for the company to pay such a hefty fine compared to the revenue they generate, the damage cannot be calculated. It could really affect the business in the future and even damage the goodwill of the application.

Fundamentally, they’ll have to pull down videos of children under the age of 12 to keep them going alive on the marketplaces.
