Developers to Secure 5G Security Loopholes

The future sounds exciting and fast but is also scary. It is also not secure. These are all terms that define 5G, the newest addition to the internet family. The world has been waiting for this new addition, and it’s been a while. But before everyone could get their hands on this new present, there is also a scary surprise.

Swiss researchers have found security holes in the new mobile network. But don’t think the global Google and Facebook security holes. These are minor ones and would be fixed pretty soon before its global launch. For mobile networks, this is not uncommon. Mobile networks are always full of loopholes and security holes that always need to be fixed.

Faster

But the reason this is surprising when coming to 5G is that the mobile network was built on a good foundation. The designers had already employed the best of the best security features into the network, like the Authentication and Key Agreement (AKA) that guarantees the protection and confidentiality of data when using the internet connection on smartphones.

These improvements would put an end on data theft and will also block the access to the location of smartphone users, which was otherwise previously attainable. But turns out that this was not enough. Researchers analyzed the 5G network and seem that the security that is offered is far below the needed requirements. These weaknesses could allow a malicious user to change his/her internet connection to another user’s account.

Access to the location of smartphone users is also another thing. With the new 5G network, users can access the location of smartphone users. And this gets worse when compared to the 3G or 4G network. It was much harder or complicated to access data or location in the 3G and 4G networks.

Improvements

However, this is just a stepping stone. Researchers who found and analyzed these flaws don’t have a lot of doubt on this future new mobile technology. These issues can be fixed even before the deployment of 5G, after contacting 3GPP, the international mobile network management organization.

On the other hand, users are also expecting that corrections would be made as soon as possible and a new start is made in this new network. Mobile companies are already looking forward to this technology, and are already developing new technology to adopt this new technology into their phones.

And of course, that is the way to be. Very soon, 5G will be the new mobile network that everyone would be using, and it would certainly take the internet to a whole new level.
