Google Assistant Can Now Create and Manage Schedules and Routines

Humans might have become smarter, but we also very well expect others to do things for us! That goes with virtual assistants as well! Virtual assistants are becoming more and more advanced, and they are becoming more and more capable of doing multiple tasks, that too at various different schedules.

Back at the Google I/O, Google announced various new features, and two were made to stand out. The feature to focus on automating things you do regularly, and also to create schedules. These two features are very useful and helpful in getting things done fast and easily.

One can also create custom hot words with this. For example, one can say “Hey Google, good night”, and the Assistant can set an alarm, and can also read aloud the weather forecast for the next day. This is just an example. And so it is clear that the options are endless. You can create any custom routine of your choice.

Custom Routines

Custom routines were rolled out to users as soon as the Google I/O ended, but no word has been heard about schedules. Until now, that is. DroidLife has noticed that scheduling is being rolled out to users via the Google Home app. Making a schedule is something that is easy peasy.

All that one needs to do is to open the Google Home app, go to settings, and the routines. Once there, just tap the + button, and then one can find the “Set a time and day” option that allows users to schedule things ahead of time.

This feature is being seen only by a few users, and so if you are not finding the feature on your screen, check after a few days. Google is rolling this silently, and so don’t expect much fanfare or notifications saying that the feature is now released.

Connected Hardware

The best thing about this feature is that it can be tied to other smart hardware too, and the features can be expanded if you have all the right equipment. You can arrange lights and appliances to turn on and off at set times and set your routine accordingly. Think how awesome it would be if you wake up and as soon as you walk into the kitchen, you have your coffee ready? With a smart coffee maker and Google Assistant, you can finally do that.

It’s clear that the options are endless. The Google assistant can finally be a true assistant.
